Oklahoma State University

Vision Statement

The Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management will be the premier source of cutting-edge research, instruction, and outreach on fisheries, forestry, rangelands, wildlife, and fire ecology for students, landowners, and land managers and will promote the sustainable and ecological management of natural resources.

Mission Statement

Our mission is driven by the three branches of the land grant university. Our programs in teaching, research, and extension will have a high impact on developing new knowledge, changing management behavior, and developing an informed public on natural resource issues.

We will produce outstanding undergraduate and graduate students with the ecological and managerial skills to be leaders in natural resource science and management. This will be accomplished by continuously increasing the quality of our curriculum, and by recruiting high-quality students from a diversity of backgrounds through enhancing scholarship offerings and recruitment efforts.

We will provide science-based information addressing state, national, and global issues concerning natural resources. This will be accomplished through involving undergraduate students in research, recruiting well-qualified graduate students, increasing high-impact publications and competitive grants, and promoting faculty involvement in professional societies through editorships, elected positions, and review panels.

We will be the source of research-based information on state, national, and global issues focused on promoting sustainable natural resource management. Our extension program will be closely allied with the research program through high-quality publications, presentations, and workshops. We will develop an informed citizenry to affect sustainable management policies and increase the economic value of the natural resources.
